Dubai has approved the First Al Khail Street Development Plan, a 15-kilometre elevated corridor with three lanes in each direction running parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road. Construction begins in Q3 2027 and concludes in Q4 2030. The project will serve approximately 2.6 million people and improve access to Al Barsha, Al Quoz, Business Bay and Meydan. It is expected to increase road capacity by around 9,000 vehicles per hour and reduce travel time on Sheikh Zayed Road by 51 per cent during peak hours. Unlike Dubai's major highways, First Al Khail Street runs through residential and commercial communities, connecting neighbouring areas and serving shorter daily trips rather than through traffic.
