Employers warned to use only licensed domestic worker recruiters

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has advised UAE employers hiring domestic workers to deal only with licensed recruitment offices. Using unlicensed individuals or agencies can result in loss of legal protections and expose families to financial, security and health risks.

Licensed recruitment offices must comply with official prices, provide trained and qualified workers and offer a two-year guarantee. Employers can recover all or part of recruitment costs in specified circumstances during the first six months if a worker terminates without legitimate reason, leaves without acceptable cause, is medically unfit or cannot perform agreed duties.

Employers have responsibilities including timely wage payment through the Wage Protection System, providing suitable accommodation and healthcare, and granting workers stipulated leave and employment rights. The ministry offers three recruitment packages: traditional (two-year contract with household registration), temporary (24-hour placement, remains registered with office), and flexible (hourly to monthly hire with unlimited replacements).

Digital services through the ministry's website and smart application allow employers to complete recruitment procedures, manage contracts and submit complaints. The awareness initiative aims to help employers understand rights and obligations while regulating relations between employers and domestic workers.
