GDRFA warns against fake freelance visa scams; penalties up to Dh10,000 per worker

Dubai authorities have arrested a man previously known in the arts and entertainment scene for allegedly promoting fraudulent freelance visas in exchange for money. The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs — Dubai (GDRFA Dubai), in cooperation with Dubai Police, launched the investigation after detecting fraudulent documents. The suspect used social media platforms including TikTok and YouTube to market fake visas priced between Dh7,000 and Dh9,000, reportedly issuing over 40 fraudulent visas over two years. GDRFA Dubai warned against fake visa offers circulating on digital platforms, particularly those made under the names of unauthorised entities or presented as linked to official government bodies. Authorities urged people to verify any visa or residency offer through official channels before sharing personal information or making payment. Penalties for obtaining visas through exploitation can reach Dh10,000 per worker, with deportation for foreign nationals. Establishments face penalties up to Dh100,000, with amounts increasing based on the number of workers involved.
