GPSSA clarifies rules for purchasing additional pension service years

The General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) has outlined the rules for purchasing additional service years to increase pension value. Eligibility depends on which pension law covers the individual. Under the 1999 Law, applicants must have completed 20 years of service; under the 2023 Law, they must have completed 25 years, or 15 years plus age 60. Men covered by the 1999 Law may purchase up to five additional years; women may purchase up to 10 years. Under the 2023 Law, both men and women may purchase up to five years. The total recognised service period cannot exceed 35 years. Cost is calculated using the contribution account salary multiplied by the applicable contribution rate (20% for 1999 Law; 26% for 2023 Law) and the number of months purchased. Payment may be made in full or monthly instalments, with 50% paid upfront and the balance settled within four years, before age 60, or before service ends. Applicants must be actively employed when applying.
