IndiGo has announced higher fuel charges on international flights effective from October 6, citing sustained increases in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) costs. For flights between the GCC and Middle East, including the UAE, the revised fuel charge will be INR5,500 (about Dh215) per sector, regardless of distance. The airline said the latest month-on-month increase in ATF prices had exceeded 14 per cent, pushing fuel costs to levels among the highest seen in the past decade. ATF accounts for a significant share of IndiGo's operating costs. The new charges will apply to all bookings made from 12.01am on October 6. This marks another rise in the fuel component of IndiGo fares this year, following an increase in April when the charge for GCC and Middle East flights was about Dh115. The new flat Dh215 charge represents an increase of about Dh95 on shorter sectors and Dh19 on longer routes. IndiGo said it would continue to monitor fuel prices and make further adjustments as appropriate.
