Pedestrians warned: Dh400 fine for crossing outside designated areas

Abu Dhabi Police have urged pedestrians to use designated crossings, bridges and tunnels, warning that crossing roads at undesignated locations can put both pedestrians and motorists at risk. The Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate called on people to follow pedestrian traffic signals and use designated crossing points rather than attempting to cross roads randomly. The warning is part of continuing efforts to improve road safety across the emirate and reduce risks faced by pedestrians, particularly when crossing busy roads. Police also called on motorists to remain alert for pedestrians and reduce their speed when approaching designated crossings. Drivers should give pedestrians priority when they are crossing, the force said, stressing that road safety depends on responsible behaviour from both motorists and pedestrians. The awareness campaign falls under Abu Dhabi Police's “Smart Road Security” strategic priority, which aims to strengthen the safety of pedestrians and other road users.
