RTA awards Dh1.161bn Al Meydan Street project with 2028 completion target

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded two contracts worth Dh1.161 billion to develop Al Meydan Street, a strategic supporting corridor for Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. The 17-kilometre road project will increase north-south traffic capacity by 18% and include 3.7 kilometres of bridges and cycling tracks. Journey times between Al Manama Street and Umm Suqeim Street are expected to fall from 30 minutes to 10 minutes. The project will serve residential and development areas with over 500,000 residents and is scheduled for completion by end-2028. Two contracts have been divided to speed construction: the first covers 14 kilometres between Latifa bint Hamdan Street and Umm Suqeim Street with grade-separated interchanges handling up to 14,400 vehicles per hour; the second covers Al Meydan Street from First Al Khail Street through Al Khail Road to Muscat Street, including a multi-level interchange at Al Meydan-Muscat intersection. The Al Meydan project integrates with the Latifa bint Hamdan Street Development Project to connect major arterial roads including Sheikh Zayed Road, Emirates Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.
