Strait of Hormuz shipping traffic falls sharply amid US-Iran tensions

Shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz has fallen as US-Iran tensions continue to escalate. Seven commodity vessels crossed the Strait on Thursday, down from 14 the previous day, with no supertankers or LNG carriers recorded crossing that day. More vessels are using alternative routes or switching off tracking systems. The uncertainty over the key waterway, a major route for global oil shipments, is affecting fuel prices, transport and the cost of goods in the region. Brent crude remains around $93.82 a barrel and WTI around $86.78. Airlines including Etihad, Emirates, Air Arabia and flydubai have cancelled or delayed services to regional destinations including Tel Aviv, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Passengers are advised to check flight status directly with airlines before travelling and allow extra time at the airport.
