Thailand cuts visa-free stays to 30 days for UAE, India, US and 57 other countries from September 15

Thailand is halving visa-free stays for travellers from 60 countries, including the UAE and India, from 60 days to 30 days effective September 15. The change follows Thailand's expansion of visa-exempt travel to 93 countries in July 2024. Thai authorities say the reduction targets foreigners exploiting generous visa rules to commit crimes, work illegally or operate businesses without permits. Affected travellers can request a one-time extension of up to 30 more days, subject to immigration approval. Those admitted under the existing 60-day scheme before September 15 will retain their original stay period. The new rules also limit visa-exempt land-border entries to two per calendar year for most nationalities, though Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore are exempt. Bilateral agreements for 90-day visa-free stays with Argentina, Brazil, Chile, South Korea and Peru remain unchanged.
