Vehicles seized when Dubai traffic fines exceed Dh6,000 under amended decree

Dubai Police impounded around 30 vehicles last year after their accumulated traffic fines exceeded Dh6,000, the threshold at which vehicles can be seized under Dubai law. Under Decree No. 29 of 2015, as amended by Decree No. 30 of 2023, a vehicle can be seized when its outstanding traffic fines exceed Dh6,000. To secure its release, the owner must pay the accumulated fines. Motorists whose fines approach or exceed the limit are contacted directly and urged to settle their dues. Some vehicles seized had accumulated fines worth tens of thousands of dirhams. The seizures also included vehicles whose registrations had not been renewed, in some cases for several years. Police use advanced smart systems capable of reading number plates and identifying wanted vehicles. Motorists are also contacted through text messages and smart notifications. Dubai Police urged motorists not to delay paying fines or renewing vehicle registrations, saying payment plans and other facilities are available through its partners.
