Abu Dhabi City Municipality has introduced permit fees and technical standards for car park shades installed outside residential plot boundaries. Permit applications must be submitted online through the TAMM platform using UAE Pass digital identity via the Housing and Construction section. The permit fee is set at Dh1,000 with an annual renewal fee of Dh200. Plot owners with an existing approved permit for works outside plot boundaries are exempt from the separate shade fee. Technical requirements include: shades must not exceed 3 by 6 metres, the lowest point must be at least 2.5 metres above pavement, and the highest point must not exceed 4.5 metres. Light, pale colours matching the property frontage are required. Materials such as zinc sheeting, worn fabric, or untreated wood are prohibited. Shades must not obstruct pedestrian or vehicle movement, block visibility at bends and junctions, or impede civil defence vehicle access or underground service lines. Owners must remove shades immediately at their own expense if requested by the Municipality and may not rent out or use shades for any purpose other than resident parking.
