Dubai tightens health and safety checks in schools ahead of 2026–2027 term

Dubai Municipality has launched expanded health and safety inspections across more than 500 educational institutions for the 2026–2027 school year. Inspections cover school canteens, swimming pools, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, water tanks, and food-contact materials including containers and drinking bottles. The authority is also testing school uniforms for safety compliance. Inspection teams are verifying canteen permits, checking menus against Dubai Municipality's nutrition guidelines, and examining lifeguard certification, rescue equipment and first-aid supplies at pools. Samples of food containers, water bottles and uniforms are being collected for laboratory analysis. The Municipality is running awareness programmes for students, parents, school staff and canteen employees, including workshops on the Smart Food Choices colour-classification system (green, orange, red, black), food safety, personal hygiene and waste reduction. Training is being provided to food supervisors, canteen staff and school food safety officers on meal preparation, storage and handling requirements.
