The UAE Ministry of Education has set out a revised study framework for Grade 11 and 12 pupils in the general and advanced streams. Subjects are grouped into three categories: compulsory, scientific, and elective. All pupils take six compulsory subjects: Arabic, Islamic Education, Social Studies and Moral Education, English, Mathematics, and Physical and Health Education. Compulsory subjects account for 24 periods a week, with Mathematics receiving the largest share at seven periods, followed by English with six and Arabic with five. A second group covers scientific subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, set according to grade and stream. A third group gives pupils choice: elective areas include artificial intelligence and technology, arts, and health sciences. Pupils may select one or two elective subjects. The framework is designed to give more flexibility while maintaining common academic foundation and preparation for higher education.
