School reopening: UAE drivers face fines for violations in drop-off zones

With schools set to reopen across the UAE, roads around schools are expected to become busier as parents drop off and collect children during peak hours. Motorists should take extra care around school zones, particularly when approaching school buses, pedestrian crossings and busy drop-off areas.

Key traffic violations to avoid include failing to stop for a school bus (Dh1,000 and 10 black points), failing to give way to pedestrians at crossings (Dh500 and six black points), stopping in the middle of the road during drop-off (up to Dh1,000 and six black points), parking incorrectly or in prohibited areas (Dh200), speeding near schools (up to Dh3,000), and using a mobile phone while driving (Dh800 and four black points).

Parents should use designated drop-off areas or legal parking spaces rather than stopping in traffic lanes. Drivers should also follow posted speed limits, avoid blocking school entrances or pedestrian access, and refrain from handling phones while driving, even in slow-moving traffic.
