UAE tightens inspection rules for government schools ahead of 2026-27 term

The UAE Ministry of Education has established stricter inspection requirements for government schools before the 2026-2027 academic year. Schools must ensure building safety with defect-free walls, ceilings and floors, maintain safe corridors and staircases, and install internal and external surveillance cameras while protecting student privacy. Transport requirements include compliance with emirate regulations, ensuring drivers and supervisors hold necessary permits, and maintaining daily monitoring procedures for pupils using school buses. Schools must maintain sufficient first-aid kits, properly insulate electrical connections, and keep cleaning materials in locked storage. Visitor access will be controlled through approved attendance recording systems. Canteen food must be authority-approved, stored at appropriate temperatures, and canteen staff must be licensed and trained in food safety. Schools must use buildings only for approved educational purposes and maintain cleanliness throughout premises. Special protections are required for pupils with disabilities, including accessible environments, appropriate support programmes, and qualified teachers. Administrative and teaching staff return August 24, with pupils beginning the new academic year August 31. The first term includes Arabic baseline assessments and diagnostic testing before the winter break begins December 14 for pupils and December 21 for staff.
