India bank strike Sept 28–30 may delay remittances; PSU banks open Sunday

UAE residents sending money to India should be aware of a three-day bank strike scheduled for September 28 to 30. Public-sector banks and regional rural banks will operate on Sunday, September 27, providing an extra opportunity to complete urgent banking work before the strike. Several public-sector banks have announced a temporary waiver of ATM charges during the strike period. Digital banking services including UPI, internet banking, mobile banking and ATMs are expected to remain available. UAE-to-India remittance services are not automatically halted by the strike, but transfers that require processing by the receiving bank in India could take longer. UAE residents sending money should check the expected credit time with their bank or exchange house and allow additional time. Private-sector banks are not part of the strike and may have different Sunday arrangements; customers should check their bank's advisory directly. The strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions over employee-related demands including implementation of a five-day banking week.
