The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has announced the 2026–2027 traditional hunting season for falconry, running from 20 October 2026 to 31 January 2027. The season is regulated under Law No. (22) of 2005 and supports EAD's commitment to preserving falconry as part of UAE cultural heritage while protecting wildlife.
Hunting is restricted to licensed falconers, and only captive-bred Houbara bustards may be hunted in open areas at least two kilometres from main and secondary roads, protected areas, forests, residential and military zones, petroleum facilities, and private property.
Applicants must be UAE nationals aged 18 or over. Falconry licences are issued under Resolution No. (5) of 2021 and cost AED 127 per season. Any falcon used must be registered in the national falcon registration system of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. Licences are valid for one season only.
Applications are submitted via the TAMM smart application or website using UAE Pass. Falconers must comply with environmental requirements, hunt only between sunrise and sunset, carry their licence while hunting, and present it to authorities upon request. Hunting or disturbing other wild animals, birds or reptiles, driving over vegetation, and transferring licences to others are prohibited.
