Lost your Dubai driving licence or have a card that is damaged and can no longer be used? You do not need to go through the process of applying for a new licence from scratch. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) allows residents and citizens with a valid driving licence to request a replacement online, through the RTA Dubai app or at a self-service machine. The replacement licence retains the remaining validity period of the original licence.

Replacement fees depend on age: under 21 pay Dh100 plus Dh20 Knowledge and Innovation fee (Dh120); 21 or older pay Dh300 plus Dh20 (Dh320). Outstanding licence fines must be cleared as part of the process. Sanad card holders (People of Determination) get a 50 per cent discount on RTA services.

To apply online, visit rta.ae, go to ‘Apply for or Manage a Driving Licence’ and select ‘Replace Lost/Damaged Driving Licence’. Log in with Emirates ID, passport or UAE Pass, enter the OTP sent to the mobile number on your Traffic File, select the reason (lost or damaged), confirm details, choose self-service machine pick-up or delivery, pay fines and fees. Once payment is completed, you receive your Digital Driving Licence instantly, accessible through My Docs on the RTA Dubai app and addable to Apple or Samsung Wallet.

If you do not have a valid Emirates ID, update your Traffic File before applying. Details already updated (photo, name, nationality) appear on the reprinted licence. Physical cards can be printed at RTA self-service machines or smart kiosks at Al Barsha, Al Kifaf, Al Manarah, Al Twar, Deira and Umm Ramool. At the machine, enter licence number, issuing authority, birth year and reason, then pay and print. Delivery options: standard Dh20, same-day Dh35, within two hours Dh50, international Dh50.
