Sharjah Ruler issues law regulating correctional institution

The law establishes the general policy of the correctional institution to ensure security, reform, and rehabilitation. It sets principles and rules governing the institution based on social defence, ensuring sentence enforcement protects society. The law provides for a safe environment that safeguards inmate dignity and protects their rights, while aiming to socially, psychologically, and culturally reform and rehabilitate convicted persons serving custodial sentences. The provisions apply to the Correctional Institution in Sharjah, as well as to any other institutions or centres established for the same objectives, and to places designated for execution of pre-trial detention orders.
