Up to Dh4,000 fine for illegal car washing in Abu Dhabi residential areas

Abu Dhabi's municipality is cracking down on vehicle washing in unauthorised areas such as streets and parking lots within residential neighbourhoods. Washing vehicles in public places is prohibited under Abu Dhabi's municipal regulations. Residents who hire unlicensed car washers to clean vehicles in public areas or residential streets can be fined, as can the unauthorised washers themselves. Motorists who leave dirty vehicles unattended in public spaces risk a fine of up to Dh2,000, with the vehicle liable to be impounded, and repeat offenders facing a Dh4,000 penalty. The crackdown is part of the municipality's 'Our Home, Our Responsibility' campaign, which aims to protect neighbourhoods from water pooling that damages roads, creates breeding grounds for mosquitoes and insects, and wastes water. The campaign includes municipal field visits and public awareness workshops explaining the adverse effects of informal car washing and encouraging residents to use licensed car wash facilities instead.
